Associate Professor Jon Hinwood has been part of the Monash Engineering team for 46 years, over which time he has made significant valuable contributions to the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Jon has been teaching undergraduates for 46 years and has also supervised 45 graduate research students.
Developing and introducing the Environmental Fluid Mechanics unit, which has been running for up to 40 years and received enthusiasm and positive feedback from students, has been one of Jon’s career highlights. Among his many career achievements, Jon also developed the wave tank at Monash
University, Clayton Campus, which is still the largest in the southern hemisphere. Other career highlights include his achievements in “developing techniques for design of subsea petroleum pipelines and applying non-linear methods of engineering to environmental problems”.
